Presidents report, April 2014

Dear members,

I am delighted to announce Ethan Gibson is our 100th member this year. This is the first time the club has achieved 100 members in one year. Good numbers at all events is encouraging new members to join, keep up the good work everyone. Start thinking 3Hr Enduro. A few hardy riders have been preparing over the last month for the 12Hr event at the Kona 24Hr Enduro on the 4th and 5th May at Cudlee creek SA. Nick, Damien, Rohan, Lenny, Mike Oz, Matt Leeder, Brooksy, and Kieren, we wish them all the best for their selected competitions.

  • It is very pleasing to see our Coomie track system being used to the full with people out training or just having a Saturday or Sunday ride every week end and in the evenings. The trail head sign is doing the job making our existence known and keeping calendar and 3Hr Enduro flyers dry and available for visitors.
  • With a little rain beforehand the long track meeting held on the 13th April provided the best track conditions for some time. Fast sections made for some good race times with everyone enjoying a great event. Don’t forget the results can be viewed at http://my2.raceresult.com/ and look up the date of any past event over the last two years.
  • Again numbers were good with 35 competitors, considering it was in school holidays it is only time until we crack a real big number at a club race day.
  • During a training session just prior to this event Genelle Baldwin decided to use a tree for braking, which as we all know is not the best option. Genelle was a little bent and bruised but Steve took over Ambo duties and tended to Genelle’s injuries as a dedicated officer of the profession would, but despite that Genelle still recovered.
  • After this the Dawes, Jason, Chelsea, and Damon, along with Steve and Genelle competed at the Easter Alice Springs Muster held over the 4 days. They all completed their events and were great ambassadors for our club.
  • Jason completed the 87Km section on the last day on his single speed bike with collapsed forks. Not sure he enjoyed this ride?
  • The Club has purchased a blower of its own for use clearing leaves and debris from the track before meetings.
  • The Management Plan as mentioned last month is in progress with the assistance of the Barkindji Maraura Elders Environment Team (BMEET) offering to help our club engage the official requirements of this project.
  • The Committee would like members and non-members alike to take note that portions of the Coomie track have been closed for cultural reasons and are not to be accessed under any circumstances. Please obey all track closed signs.

Regards,

Phil Sullivan President
