President’s report, August 2014

Coomie Club 3Hr Enduro September 21stthe Committee is busy preparing for the 3 Hr Enduro, anyone with any ideas or contributions can contact Nick Dew at any time to offer assistance.

First of all I would like to thank Nick Algate and the Broken Hill Mountain Bike club members for setting up a tremendous track system and making it available for our club members on Saturday 23rd August to have a combined social event with the local Broken Hill club.

  • The Broken Hill social event was held in fine weather. Fifteen Coomie Club members attended this event and what an event it was. The three tracks ranged from very difficult 18km range climb to the medium difficult 13km rocky experience to a great 4km junior track. Most of our A & B graders completed the 18Km track then the 13km track and some completed all three tracks. It was great to see the women’s efforts on this awesome track system. Bobbie, Brooke, and Lauren had never seen the likes of this terrain whilst Amanda and Chelsea had some former experience in Alice Springs with similar tracks. After the initial inhibition they all achieved creditable laps of the circuits.
  • The day was followed by an evening social event in conjunction with the Broken Hill Mountain Bike club members. This evening can only be described as a laugh a minute with tall and true mountain bike tales being divulged over a beverage and a delightful meal.
  • This month’s race event was held on the 10th August at the Coomealla long track in reverse. Again it is great to see such a roll up to a local event with 43 Competitors. Tyler was in fine form coming in 2nd place just behind Mike Oz, well done Tyler. I might mention that Tyler rode from Mildura to the event then rode home after.
  • Tyler must also be congratulated for his great finish in 2nd place in the school championships at the You Yangs near Melbourne this month.
  • The posters for the Enduro are up at various points around the district and every member and past competitor has had a flyer sent to them. Keep an eye out and keep training.
  • The Committee is pleased to announce that it has completed and presented a Track Management plan for the Coomealla Mountain Bike Park area for submission to the Office of Environment and Heritage and the Wentworth Shire council. Hopefully this plan will cement the Club’s race tracks into a permanent ongoing relationship for future development of the area.
  • Great news, all our sponsors have again supported our Club with their annual sponsorship donation, the club is well supported from these few dedicated sponsors that see our club as offering healthy sporting events for all ages.

Remember, – get fit, Keep fit, ride your Mountain Bike.
