Presidents report, March 2014

The month started off with Hodgo’s Roll of the dice on Sunday 2nd March. Again we achieved an increase of participants over the previous year. The winners were Steve and Genelle Baldwin. Steve had the planets aligned and rolled a great score to give the team the points and the prize money.

  • Nick Dew and myself attended a meeting at the Coomealla track with representatives from the Wentworth Shire and from the Office of Environment and Heritage NSW and accompanied by the general manager of the Coomealla Memorial Sporting Club, Mr Craig Muir. This was in regard to some work our Club needs to undertake to achieve sustainable long term use of our track facility.
  • It comes to pass that our committee along with club members need to produce a management plan for the area. On this note, anyone that might be able to offer a hand to help in this matter please feel free to put your hand up, we need all the help we can get to achieve the plan and secure the long term viability of our great track facility.
  • Please remember our Club track system not only functions for our members but is an open facility, and is being used by local families and visitors to the district. It would be nice to think it helps promote healthy family and individual activities and is a local initiative toward the goals of an interesting and healthy community.
  • The final round of the 2013/14 Hodgson’s Cycles Perpetual trophy Summer series was held on Sunday the 23rd of March at the Coomie track. This was also the second round of the 2014 aggregate series. The   Men’s Summer series trophy was won by Rohan Hollis by one point from Mike Osborne. Rohan contested all three rounds that gave him the consistency of placing’s to win over Oz’s two wins over two events.
  • The Women’s summer series was won by Jodie Bray by 2 points to Genelle Baldwin. Jodie rode consistently over the rounds whilst Genelle had a DNF on the first round with a broken chain that made her job all the harder even with two wins.
  • With the build-up in the number of Women competitors this is the first year that the club has been able to award a Summer Series trophy place to the Women’s class, a great achievement.
  • As usual we find consistency wins the day. Both these winners will have their names engraved on the trophy that is available for viewing in the trophy cabinets in the Coomie Club foyer.
  • This meeting was attended by 41 riders, competitive and social with Logan Baldock entering for his first competitive event in the U/13 class. Well done Logan.
  • It is also great to see the parents that were bringing the Children along to ride are now on their bikes competing, and in some cases the other way around, parents that competed are now bringing juniors along to have a go, it is all a fun event.

Regards,

Phil Sullivan President
